Interviewing

In fall 2020, Matthew was named San Francisco Writers Conference Podcast Program Director and Host. He relaunched the podcast in March 2021, with guests including Natalie Baszile, Jasmin Darznik, Joanna Penn, Alia Volz, Tongo Eisen-Martin, Charlie Jane Anders, Kirstin Valdez Quade, K-Ming Chang, and others.

Matthew’s weekly video podcast, Matthew Félix On Air, featured “people who create and people who make a difference.” The live, on-camera, in-depth interviews covered subjects such as writing, travel, visual arts, spirituality, health, culture, society, and the environment. Matthew's guests included New York Times-bestselling writers; CEOs of not-for-profits; people working for the rights of women, the LGBTQ+ community, and refugees; filmmakers; entrepreneurs; and many more.

Although in the spring of 2022 he concluded his tenure at the SFWC Podcast to dedicate time to his work in progress, Matthew continues regularly interviewing authors and others online, at bookstores such as Book Passage and Sausalito Books by the Bay, and for institutions such as San Francisco’s Mechanics’ Institute, where he also spoke about the art of the interview.

Examples of past interviews can be found below; others, including a sizzle reel, are here.

Matthew Félix is a brilliant interviewer. I was so grateful for his hard work and dedication conducting interviews for a Talk Vietnam documentary, and also appreciated his making the experience fun for the interviewees. I would love to work with Matthew again. He is the best.
